The City of Nanaimo encourages high-quality development and has developed several programs aimed at reducing development costs for certain qualifying projects. To cite two examples: the City of Nanaimo's Development Cost Charges (DCCs) are forgiven in the downtown area and residential development projects for historic downtown properties are eligible for flexibility in the application of seismic standards.
